The Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) will stage an Olympic Solidarity Coaching Course beginning today and will run until Saturday, October 1.
World renowned hockey coach, Mr. Shiv Jagday, who is a former national coach of both Canada and the USA, has been selected as the facilitator of this course. Mr. Jagday has coached players from the junior level right up to the Olympic and World Cup level with great success and is a respected member of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) coaching fraternity.
The course will be attended by 25 participants, both male and female, who are all local hockey coaches of various levels. Mr. Jagday has tailored a programme to include the basics of coaching juniors right up to the team tactics of senior level competition.
Among the topics to be covered in the schedule are steps to develop young players, basic skills of the game, systems, offensive and defensive principles, press tactics and set plays.
The course will be conducted primarily at the GCC ground Bourda while some of the sessions will also take place at the national gymnasium. There will be theory and practical sessions twice per day beginning at 09:00hrs to 12:00hrs and then again from 15:00hrs to 18:00hrs. The course is made possible through the GOA with the provision of an Olympic Solidarity grant.
