The immense strides made by the executive and members of the Fruta Conquerors Football Club have been noted by none other than their chief sponsor and yesterday afternoon the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of that entity, the Guyana Beverages Company Ltd, Robert Selman handed over a package of more than 1.5 million dollars in cash and kind to the executives of the aforementioned club. The package consists of five hundred thousand dollars cash, while the rest of the package consists of football gears.

Mr Robert Selman (seated 2nd right) share the moment with official of the Busta Company and Club along with players, after the donation to the Fruta Conquerors Football Club.
Officials of the club have also been assured that the beverage company would provide one case of orange juice for every official game that the team participates while the club will also benefit from an initial shipment of more than 200 Polo brand T shirt, within 2 weeks, which will be sold to augment their funds. Another shipment is expected shortly afterwards.
As such, added to the half a million dollars cash donated to the club, Mr. Selman also donated gears inclusive of footballs, hoses, jerseys, trunks and football boots towards the continued progress of the club. President of the Fruta Conquerors FC, Marlon Cole travelled to the Diamond EBD offices of the Guyana Beverages Company along with his Secretary, Lavern Fraser and coach, Sampson Gilbert to receive the gift. Several of the youth footballers of the club were also present at the function.
The beverage boss expressed great delight at the opportunity afforded to his company to extend chivalry to the footballers. He reminded that his company has been assisting with their developmental programmes for more than a decade and he has witnessed genuine progress during that time. He drew special reference to two stalwarts out of the Fruta Conquerors FC that currently comprise a part of the national team battling for a place in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and said that it is such development that has inspired him to continue rendering support. “I believe that our contribution has been made worthwhile when we note the improvement of footballers from the club,” said Mr. Selman. “I feel that it is money well spent,” he concluded.
Deviating slightly from the issue at hand, Mr. Selman related that he has recently read of the efforts of President of the Alpha United FC, Odinga Lumumba, to establish a local professional football league. He lauded those efforts and reminded that he has long since made similar calls for the establishment of such an entity locally.
Mr. Cole said that he is overwhelmed by the kindly gesture even as he reminded media practitioners of the fruitful partnership his club enjoyed with the beverage company. He endorsed the magnitude of support extended by Mr. Selman over the years and hinted of further support that may be extended for the imminent Chubby U-13 championships shortly. He said that the partnership started with the beverage company donating two balls and “today we witness such support receiving ballooning magnanimously,” intimated Mr. Cole. The Fruta Conquerors President also noted that his club has a presence in the current national team competing in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers through Vurlon Mills and Walter Moore.
Coach Gilbert also came in for high praise with Secretary Lavern Fraser lauding his efforts while highlighting his tireless and unselfish efforts towards the development of his charges and the club as a whole. Consequently, the coach has been tasked to conduct a remedial class for members of the club as well as interested persons from the immediate community. These classes would be held from 17:00hrs on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Meanwhile, the club would be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on October 1 at their club house situated on the Tucville ground where a new executive will be installed to conduct its business. Several important issues will comprise the agenda including the President’s remarks and the Secretary’s report. Activities get underway at 16:00hrs.
