Food For The Poor Inc., BCB & RHTY&SC collaborate
The Berbice Cricket Board in its continued efforts to develop the sport in the Ancient County on Wednesday last donated $500,000 worth of t-shirts and Nike footwear to seven cricket clubs. The donations that were made to the Blairmont, Edinburgh, Port Mourant, Young Warriors, Police, Skeldon and Tucber Park Cricket Clubs and was a collaborative effort by the Berbice Cricket Board, Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and Food For The Poor Inc.
BCB Special Events Committee Chairman Hilbert Foster informed that the Board was fully aware of the difficulties some clubs were faced with in order to survive in the face of mounting expenses associated with transportation and gear.
The BCB he said is fully committed to assisting those clubs to fulfill their respective mandate. Foster recalled that over the last few years the Board has assisted clubs with hygiene and educational kits, cricket balls and stumps while assistance was also rendered to some clubs in form of gifts and prizes for Award Ceremonies and fund raising ventures.
He challenged the representatives of the benefitting clubs to use the footwear and t-shirts for the intended purpose and pledged the BCB’s assistance to the clubs in the future.
The veteran Cricket Administrator urged the clubs to redouble their efforts to make sure that Berbice remains strong and united in face of the efforts of a misguided few power seeking individuals who are aiming to divide.
President of the BCB, Keith Foster expressed gratitude to the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and Food For The Poor Inc., for their contributions towards the development of cricket and expressed his overall satisfaction at the current status of cricket in Berbice.
Treasurer Anil Beharry said that the Board is an organisation of progress and strongly believes in letting its work do the talking. The record and achievements of Berbice cricket under the current administration is unmatched by any other Board in Guyana and the West Indies, Beharry boasted.

Cricket Coordinator of the Skeldon Community Centre, Mr. Linden Murray expressed gratitude to the BCB for its continued investment in the clubs. He noted that the current Board has been working beyond its mandate to lift the County’s game to an unprecedented level; Murray urged the Executives to remain strong and dedicated and pledged the clubs support in all programmes and projects of the BCB.
The presentation of the items to the clubs marked the 50th off the field activity by the Berbice Cricket Board for this year and according to the Hilbert Foster the Board was on target to surpass its projected 75 activities for 2011.
Upcoming programmes of the Board include the 3rd Annual Cricket Academy, Educational TV Quiz, Essay Competition, Senior Players Charity Programme, Junior Captaincy Seminar, Batting and Wicketkeeping Clinics and a Feeding of the Poor Programme.
