Jamaica had opened their campaign for the 2011 title with an emphatic win against Antigua and Barbuda over the weekend. The Jamaicans are competing with a team of US-based players with Georgetown University star, Patrick Ewing Jr. as its leader.
The Jamaicans reportedly jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first quarter that ended 21-5 in favour of Jamaica that kept a 44-24 points lead at halftime. The Guyanese continued to trail through the third period 65-30 on their return to the Games.
Garfield Blair scored 18 points for Jamaica while Ryan Reid had 10 points in a collective effort for the team. The two wins have almost guaranteed Jamaica a place in the semi-final round of the competition. Guyana needs to win its next two games.
Rodwell ‘Kobe’ Fortune scored 14 points while Dwayne ‘Sugar’ Roberts added 11 points for the Land of Many Waters. Guyana played the United States Virgin Islands yesterday afternoon with their last game of the first round scheduled against Antigua.
