There is the threat of more failure

Dear Editor,
Just recently the Press reported Suriname’s threat to continue to pursue the unfounded claim to part of our national territory, President Jagdeo, with his usual bravado and cavalier style, ignores the serious implications of that declaration to our future development, as he and the PPP have demonstrated in many other aspects of our lives.
The PPP has neglected our physical infrastructure in all of its almost 20 years in government—roads are built and crumble almost immediately, schools are constructed at inflated costs and left empty of furniture and facilities, wharves float away, bridges built soon become impassable for one reason or another, either because of the prohibitive cost of crossing or by neglect and disrepair.
Areas never before flooded, at least, in our recent history, are being inundated, people’s livelihood and homes are being swept away from as far east as the Corentyne and to the south at Rupununi, as with others places in between as Kwakwani, Mahaica, and other coastlands areas including Georgetown!
With the continuation of these policies, as the PPP candidate to the Presidency, Mr. Ramotar has already promised, we will either be swept into the Atlantic or into Brazil or Venezuela.
The PPP Government has been idle, some say criminally negligent, when it comes to protecting the welfare of all the peoples of this country.. It has neglected our physical, social and economic environment – our livelihoods and our traditions.
Today, we don’t know who we are as a people. We are camped out in our ethnic/racial enclaves. We speak of ourselves in hyphenated terms, not as Guyanese! But, the day we see ourselves as a single Guyanese nation that will be the day that our eyes will be fully open to the evil that this regime has perpetuated against us.
The enormous possibilities which the PNC, and its partners in the JOPP coalition, offer guarantee the type of peoples’ development that would lead us of this evil embrace of the PPP’s Dark Ages. Its presidential candidate, David Granger, reminds this nation, if it needs reminding at all, that such development is predicated on the provision of a safe and secure environment to protect us from both our domestic predators ,as well as ,those who still feast their greedy eyes on our land space.
An immediate consequence of such a policy would be the jobs which would follow the new and real investment in our economy.
Low income families , despite their financial limitations, should be excited by an administration that is willing to open up access to education and training at all levels-University, technical/ vocational , adult extensions and even short term job readiness programs.
Re-investment in infrastructure; agriculture– rice, sugar, other crops, including agro –processing and manufacturing; Services; the provision of micro-credit to enterprising individuals ;mining, including real investment in bauxite, etc are more than enough reason to join this bandwagon.
What’s the alternative? Another five years of this wretched PPP dictatorship, since as I have already noted above, Ramotar has already promised to continue the policies of President Jagdeo! So what else can we expect but more of the same failed policies of this PPP regime!
