Dear Editor,
The recent lunching of the Learning Channel had me wondering who will benefit from it, but after occasionally glancing at the channel since it started transmitting its signal, I would only sit down and wait for the backlash.
Since the lunching of the channel I believe that it’s another propaganda machine for this corrupt government and I expect that close to election we will be witnessing the true purpose for this channel. Its only time it started educating the public of this government corrupt deals and achievements.
Mr. Editor, I don’t know who did this feasibility study for this government to suggest that the Learning Channel would be a great help to Guyana, but I assume with the shortage or the rapid migration of our trained and qualified teachers along with the hardship parents are experiencing to send their children to school, I guess they must have reached the conclusion that it would be less embarrassing to have the children schooled at home. Sooner or later we all might hear a shout that it’s ok for children to stay at home because, they could be taught at home via television.
Throughout the day they are showing education programmes whilst children are to suppose to be in school and in the nights they are showing movies, so when will the children be able to benefit from this channel?
I have expected that when this channel started transmitting, we would be getting quality programme, but sadly that is not so.
Most times I looked at the channel, whatever showing could be seen sticking like when those disc jockeys scratching a record whilst playing or the quality would be very low (dark, bad sounds, almost colourless etc.,).
With all the money they are spending to broadcast their propaganda on almost all other channel in Guyana, they could have at least ensure they purchase original learning DVD’s movies, etc., but given their unprogressive track record, we should not be expecting anything better to show expect their Gina productions which I am expecting to start close to elections.
