Castrol Strikers Adolph Davis in a telephone conversation with Kaieteur Sport recently said he believes the team could defeat nemesis Young Achievers in tomorrow’s final which is slated to be staged, at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Davis, who is one of the key players in the team’s line-up, told this newspaper that their impressive semi-final performance against Port Mourant Training School has given renewed confidence and they are ready to dethrone the national champions.
“We really hit our peak against Port Mourant and that display has instilled belief in the guys who now feel that they could beat Young Achievers,” Davis pointed out.
He said that the team held a practice session recently where everyone seemed focused and committed to the task of winning the final.
Castrol Strikers is a very experienced unit and with their confidence high, the matchup could produce some entertaining volleyball that fans would love to see.
Apart from Davis, Castrol could rely on the services of former national players Desta Hoppie and Ian Wills, while the emergence of setter Dhanpaul Etwaroo and the rising talent of Kerwyn Richards could prove a handful for the West Demerara side.Hoppie has been one of the mainstays of the team, while Wills on his day is as good as any locally.
Etwaroo’s inclusion in the semifinal was a crucial move and it immediately paid dividends as they cruised to an easy win, while Richards’ confidence seems to be back and his shot blocking against the likes of Randy Adams and company could give them the decisive edge.
Davis in closing said that team confidence is high and promised fans a treat and possible upset.
