Individual talent abundant, but teamwork is important – Butts

Captain of the National Men’s Rugby team Claudius Butts speaking with Kaieteur Sport last Sunday shortly after the end of two days of trial games at the National Stadium said that even though the squad is teeming with individual talent, it is still important that they play as a team.
Butts, who also captained the West Indies squad, disclosed that the final day sessions centred more on playing as a cohesive unit which is vital for the team’s success.
Guyana will be hosting back to back international engagements starting with the CAC Tournament on July 24-25 and that will be followed by the NACRA Championship with Guyana being the current champions, winning the title four-times in a row.
Butts also stated that the coaching staff and management took the opportunity to have a look at many of the young players who he informed impressed.
“The seasoned players like me, Theo (Henry) Richard Staglon, and Kevin (McKenzie), all played our part and according to the Technical Director Joe Whipple, who spearheaded the sessions he was extremely pleased with out work ethic.
Butts said that he believed the team is even stronger and fitter than when they won the last championship and they will definitely be a hard team to defeat.
Butts pointed out that when the remainder of the overseas-based players are added the team will become even better and stronger.
The players expected from overseas are Dominic Lespierre, Rupert Giles and Albert La Rose, all who’ve played at the highest level before.
