Thirty five years old and mother of four Simone Rampersaud of No. 2 Village, East Canje, was named the Region 6 Mother of the Year 2010 when the Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets First Division Team and DTV-8 organised the 4th Annual Region 6 Mother of the Year Programme.
Mrs. Anrita Fraser was named 1st runner up while Mrs. Pauline Bynoe was the 2nd runner up. The winners were selected based on a poem submitted by their children on the Topic: “My Mother – why I love her”.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster at the presentation ceremony held on May 7 at DTV-8 in New Amsterdam, stated that the aims of the programme are to identify and honour outstanding mothers, to promote good parenthood and to provide role models for young parents. The programme also seeks to teach each member of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club the importance of respecting and honouring their own parents and to promote healthy family values.
He hailed the three mothers of the year as positive role models and challenged them to share their experiences with other young parents. The Secretary/CEO praised the members of the Gizmos & Gadgets Team for organizing the event and also DTV-8 for co-sponsoring it.
Mother of the Year Simone Rampersaud expressed her gratitude to the young cricketers for making her feel special and for being role models to all youths in Berbice. Mrs. Rampersaud said that love, patience and strong faith in God are the keys to being a good parent. Mrs. Fraser and Bynoe also expressed gratitude to the cricket team and DTV-8 for honouring them.
A senior player of the Gizmos & Gadget Team in handing over the prizes to the parents stated that he and his teammates were determined not to be just sportsmen but to also play major roles in assisting Berbicians to value the importance of family life and to be positive role models to every youth in the ancient county.
Each of the Awardees received Mother of the Year Certificate and several gifts while their children received $5,000 worth of educational materials.
