Despite not finalising their recommendations, FIFA Senior Manager of Member Associations Services Urs Zanitti and Marketing Consultant of Member Associations Professionalism Programme Chris Collie told members of the media last Tuesday evening, at the Golden Coast Restaurant that they’ve addressed some of their findings with the executive of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF).
The Meeting which had in attendance the hierarchy of the GFF headed by President Colin Klass was held to apprise the media of some of the observations and preliminary recommendations that the two gentlemen offered to the GFF during their fact finding visit which concluded yesterday.
According to Zanitti, who along with Collie held interactive sessions with the media, Government officials and other important stakeholders over the period, it seemed clear that that the areas of promotion, image and marketing of the game needed to improve and modernised and those were some of the discrepancies that they will attempt to address over the coming months as they assist in moving the game forward.
He said that the Super League which had its birth last year was a historic step for football in Guyana and it must be established as a separate brand.
“We expect from the GFF a much more proactive collaboration with all the stakeholders, including the media who must be informed on a more consistent basis all that is going on in the sport,” Zanitti expressed.
Collie in his remarks spoke of the visit as a new process and a first step to develop the game in Guyana.
“It is very important to get the feedback on all the perspectives from the various stakeholders in the sport here,” he said.
He pointed to the Marketing aspect which needs more work, adding that the commercial activities could be improved as well. Klass in his presentation stated that the visit must be seen as a building block that requires the unison of all of us to improve its structure for the development of the game.
He said that the visit by the two FIFA officials was purely to have an overview from a Marketing Assessment standpoint.
Klass disclosed that FIFA has favourably considered Guyana and Jamaica as the two countries to have the assessment.
“We’ve asked them to give us a true assessment and not a window dressing as such, but frank discussions and answers,” the President declared.
The two-member team promised to work with the local body over the next 18-24 months to improve the level of delivery of the sport here.
