Despite death of his grandmother
Demerara all-rounder Travis Blyden continues to do well for the Rousillac United Cricket Club (RUCC) in Trinidad despite the passing of his grandmother.
The right-handed batsman and leg-spinner who players for the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) in Guyana’s cricket, scored an entertaining 64 with six fours on Sunday against T&TEC at their ground in Point Lisas in Cova in the Trinidad and Tobago National League.
RUCC is presently placed 7th in the 12-team competition and need to finish among the top eight teams to avoid being relegated to a lower league next season.
Blyden’s latest half-century helped his team to 194 while Kevin Acharaji (49) offered support as T&T spinner Jason Mohamed took 4-9.
Blyden picked up 3/37 as T&TEC were bowled out for 151 before Rousillac fell for 114 with Blyden making 20 and fellow Guyanese Elton Baker 21. Set 157 to win outright T&TEC won by six wickets as Blyden took 2-29.
Blyden who missed a game recently to attend his grandmother’s funeral in Guyana, told Kaieteur Sports that his team have three League games to play in the Twin Island Republic and that he has the most runs for his team in the two-innings, 50-overs and 20/20 tournaments for 2010 including two centuries and four fifties in the League competition.
“I have so far scored 410 runs and taken 22 wickets in the league and I am enjoying the cricket here where the standard is very high compared to Guyana’s club cricket,” Blyden said.
The all-rounder who is hoping to get into the Demerara 20/20 side to vie for selection on this year’s National 20/20 team, has amassed 93 runs from four 20/20 matches in Trinidad. He has also captured eight wickets in the shortest format of the game.
Blyden, who thanked the GDF for their support since he joined that club after representing Transport Sports Club, has scored 168 runs and taken 5 wickets in three 50-over games and has an overall total of 662 runs and 31 wickets this season in Trinidad.
