All systems in place for best ever Powerboat, Canoe & Jet Ski races

Fans, supporters and the thousands of visitors already in Bartica can expect what is anticipated to be the biggest ever powerboat racing, canoe and Jet Ski competitions set to power off today at the Golden Beach Circuit, Third Avenue, today and tomorrow.
During the past week, competitors have been fine tuning their engines to ensure their boats are in the pink of condition for what is expected to be grueling competition today and tomorrow.
The likes of Clarence, Stephen and Randy Belle will all be in contention and will find stiff opposition from Dave Scott, Raymond, Rasul and Mark Fagundes among others.
Sports coordinator Calmeth Young noted that things have been going good so far and the response from corporate Guyana for the various activities has been very encouraging.
“We are very grateful for the support we have been receiving from all and sundry in relation to sponsorship for the various sports activities we have been putting on. Yesterday we hosted a successful run Bartica run and the annual river swim and we anticipate some wonderful races today and tomorrow in the powerboat segment of this year’s activities.”
Attractive cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to the 1st to 3rd place finishers in each of the power boat races; similarly, those in the canoe boat races will also be rewarded. In the case of the canoe races, the prizes range from $5,000 to $15,000 while the 25 – 40HP races will see competitors taking home prizes ranging from $20,000 to $40,000; 75 – 90 HP $20,000 to $50,000; 115 – 200HP $40,000 – $70,000 and 225 to unlimited $40,000 – $80,000.
The Jet Ski’s will be in action tomorrow and has prizes from $15,000 – $25,000 for 1st to 3rd.
The football final between Mil Ballers and Bartica Beacons was contested last evening at the Bartica Community Ground along with the third place clash featuring Potaro Strikers and Rising Stars.
Football was sponsored by the Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company.
The Annual Miss Bartica Regatta Pageant will take place this evening with 9 beauties vying for the coveted crown.
