Several persons, including a pregnant Brazilian woman, miraculously escaped without serious injuries following a horrific smash-up involving two Sport Utility Vehicles on the Lethem Access Road, yesterday.
Such was the smash-up that many persons are still in awe that almost everyone walked away unhurt.
The smash up occurred about 10:00 hours and involved a Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company pick up and a Sport Utility Vehicle, which was driven by the pregnant woman.
Reports reaching this newspaper stated that the Brazilian woman, Diana Thatuta, and her Guyanese husband, Joshua Dookie, were heading out of Lethem when she lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the GT&T pick up which was heading in the opposite direction with some of the company’s engineers.
The driver of the GT&T pick-up reportedly tried to avoid the out-of-control vehicle but was unsuccessful.
Kaieteur News understands that Dookie, who hails from Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara, and who suffered a broken hand, was transported to the Lethem Hospital but was referred along with his wife to a hospital in neighbouring Brazil for treatment and observation.
