National middle order batsman Gajanand Singh and Chabiraj Ramcharran fashioned entertaining centuries in a 235-run third wicket partnership to spearhead host Canal Number 2 to an emphatic 289-run win against Wales Community Development Centre on Sunday in the New Aqua Farm 40-over West Demerara cricket competition.
In sultry conditions, Canal Number 2 Sports Club rattled up an imposing 369- 6 in 40 overs with the left-handed Singh hitting 18 fours and a six from 104 balls in his commanding 123 while Ramcharran’s 121 came from 77 balls and was decorated with 9 fours and 11 sixes as the pair set a new Canal Number 2 partnership record.
The pugnacious Andrew Lyght Junior clobbered 5 sixes and 3 fours in a thunderous 20-ball 48 at the top of the order for Canal Number 2 who then dismissed the home team for a paltry 80 in 16.5 overs.
Brian Pooran (2-42) was the main wicket taker for Wales who never came to terms with the bowling of Nandkishore Singh who took 3-7 from 4 overs and Feroze Karimullah who had 3-6 from 2.4 overs to do the damage with the ball for the winners. Terry Daniels (38) and Paul Doris (14) were the only batsmen to reach double figures for Wales in a losing cause. (Sean Devers)
