Defending Berbice 40 overs champions Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets (RHTG&G) will face rivals Albion Cricket Club in finals of the Ramcharitar Construction Firm sponsored Berbice Cricket Board 40 overs first division competition.
The top seeded teams advanced after recording victories in their respective semi-finals. RHT Gizmos and Gadgets thrashed Port Mourant by 8 wickets while Albion overcame some scary moments to get past Scotsburg by 3 wickets.
Playing at the Port Mourant ground, Port Mourant was invited to take first strike by RHTG&G and found themselves in immediate trouble when Tony McKenzie was caught behind by Jason Sinclair off pacer Eon Gibson.
Skipper Steven Latcha batting at No.3 was peppered by Gibson before he was caught at second slip by Eon Hooper for 3 at 16-2 in the 5th over. Opener Moushin Khan scored a patient 35, Shameer Khan 21 and Chandradat Gobin 39 (2×6, 2×4). Gobin and Sasenarine Ernest added 46 for the 9th wicket to revive the home team who at one stage were 104-8 in the 29th over.
They were eventually bowled out for out for 150 in 36; skipper Assad Fudadin led the bowing for RHTG&G with 3-29, Eon Hooper 2-6, left arm spinner Ravi Narine 2-23 and Gibson 2-36.
In reply, RHTG&G paced their way to 151 losing only a pair of wickets, Jason Sinclair and Fudadin adding 70 for the 3rd wicket. Sinclair was unbeaten on 45 and the inform Fudadin on 40. The two batsmen dismissed were Dominic Rickey 20 and Khemraj Mahadeo 25. Off spinners Latcha 1-13 off 8 overs and Rajendra Bojo 1-34 were the wicket takers for the hosts.
Over at the Albion ground, Scotsburg batting first rattled up 186-9 off their allotted 40 overs. Anthony Bramble 33, Deoprakash Ramdat 26 and skipper James Hart 26 all contributing.
Bowling for Albion national leg spinner Devendra Bishoo grabbed 5-30 off 8 overs while Doodnauth Lallbeharry, Ramnarine Chattergoon and Orvin Mangru took one wicket each.
Needing to score at over 4.5 runs per over, Albion found themselves in a spot of bother at 56-3 in the 12th over before Manoj Poornauth 33 and Bishoo 30 added 45 for the 4th wicket.
National opener Sewnarine Chattergoon batting in the middle scored 18 before he was adjudged lbw off James Hart at 163-7 in 33 overs. Skipper Orwin Mangru and A. Ishak then played calmly to take them home at 188-7 in 38 overs with Mangru unbeaten on 18 and Ishak on 11.
Earlier, Ramnarine Chattergoon scored an attractive 30 while left arm spinner Moore ended with 2-34 off 8 overs and Errol Byass 2-47 for Scotsburg.
Albion and RHTG&G will face off in the final on Sunday March 14 at the Port Mourant ground.
