Half centuries by Dennis Adams, Jaggernauth Manbodh and Abdool Salim highlighted the first round of matches in the Igloo ice cream 40 over cricket competition played last Sunday in Wakenaam. At Zeelandia, Dennis Adams slammed 71 (3×4, 6×6) and got valuable support from Nandcoomar Boodram and Dharmendra Pooran 36 as the host who batted first scored 220 all out in 32 overs against Maria’s Pleasure. Bernard Lewis took 3-40 and Kennard Lewis 3-36. The visitors in reply were bowled out for 162 in 26.3 overs. Mohabir Bissoon was their leading run getter with 42 while Richard Lewis made 36 and Emmanuel Lewis 18. Boodram returned to grab 3-30 while Pooran took 3-44 and Adams 2-28 for Zeelandia who won the game by 68 runs. At Wakenaam Community Centre ground in Good Success, Sans Souci got the better of the home team by 30 runs. Sans Souci took first strike and compiled 260-8 off their allotted 40 overs. Jaggernauth Manbodh, top scored with 81 (4×4, 5×6) while Varounie Sasepaul stroked 41, Tulsieram Ramadeen 32 and Heera Sukram 25. Offspinner Nazeer Mohamed took 2-18, Left arm spinner Imran Khan 3-20 and Abdool Salim 2-30. Good Success responded with 230-9 in 37.3 overs. Salim led with 92 (5×4, 7×6) and Lionel Singh made 30 as Wayne Osborne bagged 3-25 and Roopnarine Persaud 3-27 for the winners. In Good Success innings Nazeer Mohamed did not bat due to cramps. The competition continues on Sunday with Sans Souci travelling to Zeelandia while Good Success will be at home to Noitgedacht and Maria’s Pleasure hosting Sans Souci Jaguars.
