Queen’s baton relay touches down in Lethem

Regional Chairman Clarindo Lucas holds the baton aloft at the Lethem airstrip while a number school children and residents from the area along with persons following the baton look on.

The Queen’s baton relay moved to Lethem in Region 9 on Saturday after earlier in the week making its trek around Georgetown.
Regional Chairman of Region 9 Clarindo Lucas received the baton and sent the relay on its way, which took a course through the streets of the Lethem, Tabatinga area after commencing from Tabatinga Public Road.
Walter Martin started the trek and several persons were involved shuttling the baton around the community including Police Superintendant Trevor Sampson, Deputy Regional Officer Ismay Rockcliffe and Army officer Ron Garraway, who concluded the event at the Lethem Airstrip.
Brief remarks were made by Minister of Sport Dr. Frank Anthony, Raj Kadyan Director of the QBR and GOA head K. A. Juman Yassin.
Yassin pledged the GOA’s support for Lethem, promising that they will benefit from the GOA and that Archery will be established as a permanent sport.
The residents were pleased and expressed gratitude for Region 9 being included in the relay.
