The Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) has offered congratulations to Coach Sean Baksh for attaining Level 3 Certification from the American Swimming Coaches’ Association (ASCA).
Baksh, who has been in the coaching arena for about 15 years has a wealth of experience and will continue to be an asset to the fraternity.
According to a release from GASA, in order to earn this certification, Baksh had to have completed Levels 1 and 2. He was required to prove that he had coached age-group swimmers for a minimum of ten (10) years and that he has served as National Coach for several national teams including Goodwill Swimming Championships (Guyana; 2005 and 2008), Commonwealth Games (Melbourne; 2006) and the Inter-Guiana Games (Suriname; 2008).
Most importantly, the release continued, at least one of his swimmers had to attain stipulated times.
Having satisfied all of the requirements, Baksh attended the ASCA World Clinic in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (September 8-13, 2009) where he obtained additional ”educational units” and passed the Certification Examination.
Coach Sean Baksh is only the second swimming coach, in Guyana, to have obtained this certification. Female Coach Edna Rodrigues was the first to attain this level.
In an invited comment, GASA Secretary Dr. Karen Pilgrim said the association was very happy for Baksh’s achievement adding that his contributions over the years has been invaluable and GASA will continue to benefit from his expertise.
“He is one of the coaches that has been very dedicated over the years and can be counted on to lend his expertise to any swimmer.”
Dr. Pilgrim also stated that Baksh’s achievement will serve to motivate other coaches to upgrade themselves.
