Call for guilty fan to be banned
Pele Football Club (PFC) in a letter to the Guyana Football Federation is disassociating itself from the recent attack on Riddim Squad spectators at the Tucville ground during a match between the two clubs on the opening night of the Third Annual NAMILCO Football Festival.
Following is the full contents of the letter captioned “No Association, Condemnation of Attack and Stadium Ban” and signed by club President, Cecil J. Jacques RPh.
“Pele Football Club (Pele FC) wishes to inform that Mr. Garfield Tyrell aka Sobers who was involved in the stabbing incident at the Tucville Playground during the Pele FC vs Riddim Squad game in the NAMILCO Knock-Out Tournament on Friday 23 October is in no way associated with our club.
In August 2008, Mr. Tyrell was expelled from the club as a supporter-member for assaulting our captain Dirk Archer in the semi-final of the Alpha vs Sunburst Camptown match in the Alpha Football Tournament at the GFC Ground.
This matter was also reported to the Police.
During the first round of the GFA Premier League Pele FC discussed with the GFA, the possibility of Mr. Tyrell being given a stadium ban from all football related activities for verbally abusing and threatening our Head Coach Mr. Denzil Thompson during one of our league games. Pele FC condemns the brutal attack on the supporters of the Riddim Squad team and wishes the speedy recovery to those injured in the attack. We hope Mr. Tyrell and his fellow perpetrators are punished appropriately by the legal system of the land.
Pele FC is therefore calling upon the GFF to immediately issue an indefinite stadium ban on Mr. Tyrell, making him “persona non grata” at all football events sanctioned by the GFF and its affiliates throughout Guyana in accordance with Article 22 of the 2009 FIFA Disciplinary Code.
Your favorable action on this issue will be highly appreciated and acknowledged.”
