Battle for country supremacy well and truly on
Despite the anticipated absence of defending champion Barbadian Stuart Maloney due to the destruction of his car by fire, the race for overall champion of the Caribbean is well and truly on with Jamaican David Summerbell and Mark Maloney set to resume their rivalry on November 8 at the South Dakota Circuit.
Judging from the daredevil display put on by both drivers at the Bushy Park Meeting in Barbados, the stage is laid down for an intense rivalry as the two with the best chances of winning the coveted crown mathematically, line up on the grid to battle each other.
Apart from the individual showdown, the fight for country supremacy is well and truly on with Barbados leading the points standing on 82 points followed by Jamaica on 64 and Guyana in the cellar on 31.
At the end of the Barbados duel, Jamaica’s David Summerbell jr. maintained the lead over his rivals after securing first and second place finishes along with a Did Not Start (DNS) in the three international events to go to 48 points.
In second place was Barbadian Mark Maloney, who had a fantastic day as he produced a thrilling performance to clinch two first places and a fourth to go to 39 points that put him ahead of his brother and defending champion Stuart, who had a miserable day, failing to score a single point after two DNS and a Did Not Finish (DNF).
Guyana’s Andrew King lies fourth on 16 points after gaining two third place finishes and a fifth that earned him his first set of points in the competition after missing the opening leg at Dover Raceway in Jamaica.
Another Guyanese Kevin Jeffrey, who also missed the opening round, occupies fifth position with 13 points, having secured second and fourth place finishes along with a DNF.
The Barbadian Barry Mayers, who drives a Suzuki SX4 is positioned next on 12 points, while the Lotus Elise of Stuart Williams has 9 points followed by Jamaican Chris Campbell on 6, Peter Thompson and Gary Williams on 5 apiece and bringing up the rear is Guyana’s Gavin Gayadin on 2.
