Dear Editor,
In the explosive thriller “Exorcist” the demon-possessed Linda Blair cried out repeatedly “Please help me…I’m afraid.”
Today in many quarters these words can still be heard. In Guyana, in order for us to extricate ourselves from Linda Blair’s demonic vices, many prominent citizens are now compelled to take their grievances to the courts of law for redress, due to the apparent prevalence of victimisation.
In this respect, the plight of the former Attorney General Doodnauth Singh and the Honourable Judge Jainarayan Singh comes very much to light. These two prominent citizens, whose exemplary services to this country remain unquestionable, now see the court as the only available place for redress over the non-payment of their retirement benefits.
This embarrassing scenario does not augur well for the average public servant, whose fear has now been further aroused, due to the status of these individuals who have openly vented their frustration. In view of these developments, it is expected that the Government of Guyana will act in good faith, so that fairness and transparency remains the order of the day with regards to financial disbursements.
Also, all obstacles in the path of procuring one’s hard earned benefits should be removed forthwith.
Personal animosity, political affiliation, colour nor creed should play any part in this respect. What is due to Caesar must be given to Caesar.
By so doing, the average public servant will be free from fear in attaining retirement age and the exorcised demons shall surely vanish into the twilight of history bemoaning greatly the fruits of their evil works.
