Company and Christianburg claimed the respective titles when action concluded in the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports Inter-Block football championships at the Vigilance and Mackenzie Sports Club grounds last weekend.
Company held on to eventually turn back the challenge of Vigilance 5-4 on penalty kicks after the contest ended at 0-0 at the conclusion of regulation time.
A good crowd came out in support of their respective teams and the action was a close contest but it produced no goals. Down to penalties, Eon Federicks missed the fifth spot kick to hand Company victory.
Meanwhile, up at the MSC in Linden, Christianburg needled favourites Amelia’s Ward 1-0.
Randy Small put the winners ahead in the 65th minute in what turned out to be the decisive strike.
Small latched onto a free kick from 20 yards out after one of his teammates was fouled and turned in an excellent effort that eluded the Amelia’s Ward custodian.
