Officially closes 2009 Track and Field Season
Guyana’s national 400m record holder, Aliann Pompey will be inducted to the Manhattan College Track and Field Hall of Fame in November after being formally informed of the outstanding achievement recently in the United States.
“My season is officially over, and I recently found out that on November 15th, I will be inducted into the Manhattan College Hall of Fame,” Pompey told Kaieteur Sport during a recent update via email.
In addition, the 2002 Commonwealth Gold Medal winner and 2003 Pan American Games silver Medallist indicated that she was also invited to sit on the Board of Directors on the Clonbrook Primary School Old Students’ Association.
“I also want to thank you for publishing my updates and giving my friends, family and supporters in Guyana the chance to follow my endeavours,” the seasoned Olympian and World Championship competitor briefly said.
Pompey has enjoyed much success in this year that included a ranking as high as seventh in the world over the distance. She has been a consistent international campaigner for the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
“I graduated with a Master’s Degree in 2003 from Manhattan College in Riverdale, New York (after) I finished my Bachelor’s in 1999 from the same school, both in Finance. I’m a Development Associate,” her website stated.
Apart from her national 400m record Pompey also has several Manhattan College records and was one of the schools outstanding track and field athletes under the guidance of her long-standing coach at the school, Joe Ryan. (Edison Jefford)
