Dear Editor,
I think it is time that minibus owners, start paying for the damages to road and loss of life in this country, and the degradation of morals in our society to say the least.
The duty -free concessions should be removed and revenue earned to effect repairs to the road and paid-for seminars for all drivers and conductors to attend compulsory customer service/work ethics seminars to educate and uplift them from the morass they have placed the paying public.
To not attend these seminars will effectively bar you from obtaining a licence to operate. (Your written exams and scores in your own handwriting should be your licence in the bus!)
Only to reduce or eliminate bribery.
And while on the issue of damages to the road, shouldn’t we also remove some concessions on heavy duty vehicles as well?
Can we come up with an idea on how to stop the overloading on minibuses? Can we say, do a competition and the most workable idea instituted?
Can we come up with another idea how to prevent loud music in minibuses?
See, the government is lame in these matters, the police are ineffective and are friends of the minibus operators and the general public won’t complain because of the mouth-lashing they will get from the louder-than-fish-market conductors. Please, let’s look for solutions and get the ball rolling.
