Former Guyana and West Indies youth batsman Hemnarine Chattergoon continued his fine form in the Canadian leagues with back-to-back half centuries, to see Vikings Cricket club to victory over the weekend.
The right-handed Chattergoon, who along with Ramnaresh Sarwan and Hoomchand Pooran scored youth centuries against Young Pakistan in Barbados in 1996, scored 81 last Sunday and got support from former Guyana and West Indies Under-19 left-hander Zamal Khan who made an unbeaten 51, as Vikings made 306 all out in 50 overs against Brampton Masters.
Chattergoon’s younger brother and Combined Colleges and Campus player Ramnarine Chattergoon (46) and ex-Guyana and West Indies ‘B’ team keeper Kenneth Wong (41) also contributed with the bat for Vikings.
Hemnarine Chattergoon added 45 for the second wicket with Wong and 88 for the 5th wicket with his younger brother.
Afzal Dean took 3-52 and Albert Gopie 2-33 for Brampton Masters who were then bowled out for 230, despite attractive batting from Uganda National players Joewel Olweny (71) and Kenney Kamyuka (72)
Former Guyana first-class fast bowler Jeremy Gordon captured 3-35 and Ramnarine Chattergoon 3-39.
In their previous game, Vikings lost to Popeyes Sports Club by 5 wickets. Vikings reached 199-7 from 50 overs with Chattergoon making 78.
Canada ODI batsman Rizwan Cheema, who scored two 50s against West Indies last year, hit a blistering 64 to lead Popeyes to victory, as former Guyana First-Class skipper Damodar Daesrat took 2-28 in a losing effort for Vikings. (Sean Devers)
