Rose Hall Town Bakewell, No. 70 Lalman, Edinburgh and Scottsburg United have all reached the last 16 playoffs of 2008 New Building Society Challenge Second Division 40-Over Cricket Competition, after winning their preliminary matches to end up winners of their respective zones.
Former Guyana National Under-19 pacer Shevon Marks took 8 for 39 from 8 overs, the best bowling figures in the competition so far, to help his team, Rose Hall Town Bakewell skittle out Nigg for a paltry 62 in 16 overs in Zone I. Rose Hall went on to win by 10 wickets.
In Zone N, after No. 73 Young Warriors had posted a fairly challenging 204 for 8 in 40 overs, thanks mainly to half centuries from Hemant Jagdeo and Lakeram Latchman, No. 70 Lalman guided by an unbeaten 95 from Bheem Singh, scraped home with just one wicket and two balls to spare.
Edinburgh off spinner Raid Ally took 7 wickets for 5 runs from 2.3 overs to break the back of the West Canje batting, bowling them out for 70 in 18.3 overs. Edinburgh had it rough also, when they replied but managed to win by 3 wickets to take Zone D.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Anthony Bramble’s 56 was integral in Scottsburg United’s 105 run win over Unity in Zone P.
Shivnarine Sahid 83 and Kunal Mangal 69 were mainly responsible for Sand Reef posting 314 all out in 29.3 overs against No. 1 Road. The two then came back with the ball, Mangal taking 3 for 19 and Sahid 2 for 15 to help bowl Sand Reef to a 150 run victory.
In another match involving No. 73 Young Warriors; Lakeram Latchman 54, (his fourth half century of the competition) and Gajendra Ramnarine 56, combined to steer Warriors to 180 in 34.3 overs. Latchman then returned, bowling medium pace to take 5 for 18, which together with Tameshwar Latchman 5 for 23 saw No. 72 Cut and Load bowled out for 93 in reply.
Other batsmen scoring half centuries were Chandrakant Persaud of No. 55 Mayflower, Somdat Singh and Manouran Vincent both of No. 71 and Jermain Skeete of Rainbow Generation.

At Edinburgh, Edinburgh beat West Canje by 3 wickets, West Canje 70 in 18.3 overs with Mootoo Sammy 37, Raid Ally 7 for 5. Edinburgh 71 for 7 in 10.5 overs with Yudrunauth Seepersaud 27, Raymond Mohamed 4 for 24.
At Scottsburg, Scottsburg United beat Unity by 105 runs. Scottsburg United 267 for 9 in 40 overs with Anthony Bramble 56, Budhram Sukhdeo 37, James hart 34, Eric Byass 30, Chemanie Ramnarine 3 for 43. Unity 162 in 34 overs with Terry Beepat 36, Alex Amsterdam 3 for 23, Shaun Jackman 3 for 34.
At Fyrish Bush Dam, Sand Reef beat No. 1 Road by 150 runs. Sand Reef 314 in 29.3 overs with Shivnarine Sahid 83, Kunal Mangal 69, Joseph Johnson 38, Kunal Mangal 3 for 19, Fizal Ally 3 for 29, Shivnarine Sahid 2 for 15.
At No. 72, No. 73 Young Warriors beat No. 72 Cut and Load by 87 runs. No. 73 Young Warriors 180 in 34.3 overs with Gajendra Ramnarine 56, Lakeram Latchman 54, Chanderkumar Ramjass 44, Vickram Biswaminie 3 for 30.
