Jairaj Singh, 55, and Mohamed Shariff, 56, are the most recent patients identified to undergo kidney transplants at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The first of the surgeries is scheduled for today and the other tomorrow. Reports are that as at yesterday the two men were resting in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Hospital officials report that the surgeries will be spearheaded by a five-member overseas medical team headed by Dr. Rahul Jindal.
The medical team also comprises transplant surgeon Dr. Edward Falta of the Walter Reed Army Medical Centre (WRAMC), Washington, DC; Dr. Arthur Womble attached to the Athens-Limestone Hospital, Athens, Alabama, Dr. Melanie Guerrero and Pulmonary Care Physician and Dr. Laura Owens.
They will be ably assisted by local doctors and nurses as well.
Successful kidney transplants were done at the GPHC in July last year and again in February this year.
The first was done on 18-year-old Munesh Mangal on July 12, 2008 and the second surgery was done on 47-year-old Winston George on February 1, 2009.
