Kaieteur Sports – The Ministry of Home Affairs is moving to construct a new Police Divisional headquarters for Region Three at Leonora, and reconstruct the Grove Police Station on the East Bank of Demerara.
This is according to a recent invitation for bids issued by the ministry in the newspapers. There was no engineer’s estimates in the bids. Government in the 2026 budget allocated $3.6 billion to further enhance the infrastructural capacity of the Guyana Police Force.
Senior Minister with the responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh during the budget presentation stated the government has taken unprecedented steps to have a modern Guyana Police Force (GPF) capable of intelligence-driven, technology-based, citizen-friendly policing. “In 2025, the sum of $4.7 billion was expended to advance construction, reconstruction and upgrades to critical security infrastructure which included the completion of 10 police stations, boat houses and living quarters, among other essential facilities,” he disclosed.
Undertaking similar projects in other part of the country, the Home Affairs Ministry had reported that the construction of these facilities is aimed at enhancing public safety, strengthening law enforcement capacity, and bringing essential services closer to residents.
Bids for these projects along with the construction of Officer’s Sports Club at Lusignan Prison, and construction of accessway for Dora Academy will be opened on May 12, 2026 at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office.
