An ammunition shortage has severely affected the West Indies Fullbore Rifle shooting championships currently in progress in Trinidad and Tobago.
The snag has curtailed the programme based on reports emanating from the Twin Island Republic. It was informed that the Individual competition that was due to commence Tuesday at Tucker Valley rifle ranges, was postponed and the Team match is expected to take place today as the organizers attempt to obtain quality ammunition.
Marksmen from Antigua/Barbuda, Barbados, Jamaica, Middlesex Rifle Shooting Association of Great Britain and host Trinidad and Tobago are a part of the championships originally scheduled from Tuesday to Sunday.
The regional tournament was rescheduled from April due to Summit of the Americas in Port-of-Spain.
Based on the limited amount of ammunition, a four-member team match is scheduled for Today with Guyana fielding three teams.
Local Fullbore captain Mahendra Persaud along with Ransford Goodluck, Dylan and Richard Fields make up one team. Dane Blair, Claude Duguid, Ryan Sampson and US-based Guyanese John Fraser form team two with the third featuring Lt. Col. Terry Stewart, Charles Deane and US-based shooters Derrick Narine and Sigmund Douglas.
Guyana are the reigning short and long range champions, claiming both titles in Jamaica last year but only the short range supremacy will be contested this time due to Tucker Valley only having short ranges.
Antigua, who made a bid to host next year’s championship, for the first time fielded a full team at the regional level.
