Veteran Group 3 campaigner Kamal Seebarran in a telephone interview with Kaieteur Sport said that he is ready and rearing to go and believes that the team will do well at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club May 3 Meeting, at the South Dakota Circuit.
Seebarran, who has lived in the shadows of champion driver Ryan Rahaman for a few years now, told this newspaper that he is confident ahead of the Meet, attributing the team’s early preparations of the machine and the recent acquisition of the go-kart track at the club’s facility as the primary reasons for his positivism.
“I’ve been able to keep fit and maintain my reflexes due to the recent development at the club where most of the drivers have bought go-karts that have allowed them to keep pace with preparations through racing the karts,” Seebarran said.
The veteran racer, who finished second consistently behind Rahaman, disclosed that the Group is a very competitive one with the likes of Keith Evelyn, Raj Boodhoo, Gavin Gayadin, Terry Singh, Ravi Singh, Kem Lall and Kemal Rahaman, all very aggressive drivers who can dominate on the day.
Seebarran did, however, concede that due to Rahaman’s (Ryan) superior horsepower, he would still be the most formidable of his opponents and difficult to beat, but felt that,” if it rains, it will certainly improve our chances.”
The local speedster, who was the only Guyanese to claim podium places during the second leg of the Caribbean Series which was held at Bushy Park in Barbados last year, revealed that he is hoping to return to that country to perform and apart from the championship points to be earned at the upcoming season opening event, he will use it as a precursor for the Barbados Meet where a strong Guyana contingent is expected to descend.
The Meeting will see twenty-five races carded for the day in various categories such as the Rookies, Groups 2A, 2B, 3, 4, Super bikes, 125cc and go-karts categories.
