Den Amstel, inaugural Unity Cup champions along with the other top place finishers on Tuesday last received their prizes won in the 9 a-side competition held at the West Demerara Secondary School ground, West Bank Demerara.
The inter block competition which was organised by Youth Productions saw a total of 18 teams competing.
The top prize of $120,000 was donated by Sandy’s Funeral Home.
Payless Variety Store presented their second place prize of $50,000 to Showtime while claiming the third place $20,000 was Showstopper. All the winners were also presented with trophies.
Den Amatel’s Damien Charles was named the best defender o the tournament. His club mate Prince Payne received the nod as the highest goal scorer after four players ended with 4 goals each.
Offering remarks at the presentation ceremony were Renison Alleyne of Sandy’s Funeral Home who said they have always been a supporter of sports especially among youths and they will continue in this vein.
Gervy Harry, chairman of the board of Governors of the West Demerara Secondary School complimented the young organising group for taking up the challenge of putting together a tournament to bring youths together.
He said that the Board met with the group prior to signing the contract for uses of the facility and is impressed that they were able to run off the tournament without any incidents.
Spokesperson for the group Rodney Nelson thanked all the sponsors, players, officials and fans for supporting the tournament.
