A section of the Guyana Technical Institute (GTI) building which fell into disrepair has now been fixed and renamed after its new donor, the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI).
Historically, Barclays Bank and Sprostons had contributed sections of the GTI building, one of which was named the “Barclays Wing” after the donors.
The building had fallen into disrepair, and the Institute sought the help of GBTI, the new name of what used to be the Barclays Bank. According to GTI, the Bank contributed $500,000 towards refurbishing the building.
The refurbishment was done by replacing wooden structures and installing new metal windows. The work was done by students of the Technical Institute under the supervision of staff and instructors.
“This commendable partnership was very instructive to our new approach to training our students within a working environment,” GTI stated.
The building was renamed the “Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Wing”.
The Institute said it looks forward to other corporate support and sponsorship in its thrust to make the entity relevant to the needs of Guyana.
