Shivram spur McGill to Premier League title

Former Guyana under-19 standby left-arm pacer Chidanand Shivram hammered 51 and took 3-22 to spur McGill Superstars to a 39-run win against Zeeburg at the Canal Number two Sports Club ground last Sunday in the final of the WDCA/New Line Aqua Farm 20/20 cricket competition in West Demerara.
Mc Gill batting first, made 134-5 off their overs with man-of-the-match Shivram leading the way.
Manhalall Doodnarine took three wickets for Zeeburg who fell for 95 in 18.2 overs, Balram Aaron capturing 4-11.
The Winners received $100,000 and the runners-up $ 50,000 while the Man of the Match took home $8,000 and a Trophy.

Mandalall Doodnarine, who took 13 wickets in the tournament, received $5,000 and a trophy after being named the tournament’s Best Bowler. Amit Jairam scored 253 runs overall and was rewarded with $5,000 and a trophy for being named the best batsman of tournament.
Chien Gittens of Cultural, Doodnauth Dhanraj of Windsor Forest and Amit Jairam of Zeeburg scored centuries in the competition.
In the final of the Development League of the competition which was played just before the Premier League final, Players Sports Club beat Uitvlugt by six wickets in a game reduced to 15 overs per side due to morning rain.

Uitvlugt made 106-7 in their allotted overs with Wazir Mohamed leading the way with 40, Mahase Persaud took 2-8 for Players who replied with 107-4 with 4 balls to spare, Fazal Bacchus top scoring with 20.
Players received $50, 000 and trophy while Uitvlugt pocketed $25, 000 along with a trophy. The man of the match was Wazir Mohamed and he collected $5,000 while the tournament’s best bowler, Krishna Mangal (11 wickets) also received $5,000 and a trophy. Fazal Bacchus who made 118 runs was named the competition’s best batman and received $5000 and a trophy.

Meanwhile, the WDCA will commence an Under-19 competition within one week’s time. Clubs are asked to submit their players’ list to Chairman of the Competitions Committee of the West Demerara Cricket Association Lalta Digamber at Canal on telephone number 623 9694, Krishna Mangal – West Coast -(277 3585 or 628 0484), Robin Khan – Wales (267-2861) or Rabindranauth Seeram.
Play in the DCB’s Hand In Hand 50- overs second division competition and the New Line Aqua Farm’s sponsored competitions will follow.
