The Guyana Revenue Authority has commenced a workshop with the aim of assisting employers in both the private and public sector organisations to better understand how to complete the statutory declaration of persons within their employ, also known as the Form 2 or Employers’ Return.
The sessions which commenced last week Tuesday are slated to continue today through Thursday in the boardroom of the Tax Operations and Services Department of the Value Added Tax Building.
In a release, Head of the Communication and Tax Advisory Services Division, Deanah Matthias, said that the sessions became necessary as a result of a notable increase in the number of incorrect or incomplete Form 2 being submitted by employers.
According to Matthias, some persons are remitting the taxes deducted but are not submitting the Form 2, while others are not inserting the correct information in the respective columns. And then there are those who omit pertinent information altogether, she noted.
The aim of the workshop, Matthias added, is to engender voluntary compliance by reaching out to customers and ensuring that they have knowledge to fulfil their obligations under the law. Some 65 employers representing various organisations have already been able to benefit from four sessions in this regard, even as it is anticipated that at least 200 persons will be reached during the remaining days of the workshop.
The GRA is targeting employers who have been critically neglectful but, according to Matthias, others who feel the need to be a part of the workshop can also join any of the sessions if they so desire. The due date for the submission of the Form 2 is Saturday, 28th February.
