Dear Editor,
The SN article captioned: “From down and out involuntary migration to law degree”, published on Tuesday 9, December 2008, can be described as a highly inspirational and motivating one.
The article which featured some of Donna Snagg’s challenges, and her subsequent success in gaining her law degree is a story that proves that, despite the many odds one faces, persistence and a strong will-power help to overcome many barriers.
I met Ms. Snagg while reading for a law degree at the University of Guyana. Donna’s pleasant personality, coupled with her warm spirit, precedes all the troubles she faced, her only focus seeming to be on accomplishing her dreams.
Her dedication and usual readiness to study any time of day or night were indicative of the seriousness in which she pursued her mission.
I applaud Donna on her recent achievement, and I am confident that she will serve the organisation which she now heads with the same kind of commitment, dedication, and purpose.
Her desire and willingness to help others in troubling situations are qualities which will ensure that those seeking help from her organisation will, unreservedly, benefit from her work.
I wish Donna and her organisation every success in their mission to contribute towards the betterment of our society.
Assisting those in need is more than a moral gesture but rather a social responsibility. Your work is likely to contribute to a better Guyana. I respect your work and appreciate the effort.
At a time when only negatives meet the headlines, these motivational stories should be highlighted so that others can be inspired to work to overcome their challenges. Lurlene Nestor
