6-year-old Mahase Ramnarine awarded most promising player trophy
West defeated East to win the Wakenaam Policing Youth Group sponsored under 19 ten overs softball cricket competition last Sunday at Belle Plaine.
In the first game, East batted first and were bowled out for 45 in 6.4 overs. Seon Venture was the main destroyer with the ball with 4-10 and received solid support from Eon Osborne 2-14.
West in response reached 46-2 off 6 overs, Osborne returned with the bat to hit the top score of 30.
And in the second match West took first strike and lashed their way to a challenging 125-2 off their allotted 10 overs.
Derwin Daniels slammed 60 and Seon Venture 25. In reply, East were bowled out for 70 off 7.4 overs with Jumall Hartman getting 25 and Maurice Retimiah 22. Osborne continued his fine performance by grabbing 3-22 and Venture 2-20 for the winners.
Six year-old Mahase Ramnarine, a member of the victorious West team, was presented with a trophy for adjudged the most promising young cricketer in the competition.
At the presentation ceremony, Sergeant of the Wakenaam Police Station Ronald Sooklall encouraged the youths to continue playing cricket and other sports while challenging others to join the youth group and to keep focused on education.
Eric Lake, a member of the Policing Group noted that sport’s was one way youths can come together which helps to keep them off the streets and away from crime. (Zaheer Mohamed)
