Several athletes turned in good performances at the Uitvlugt Community Centre Ground last weekend to emerge on the outstanding list at the Beacon Ministries – West Demerara Athletics track event dubbed “Track on Fire”.

Representing seven major Athletics Clubs in Guyana namely; Running Brave, Enmore Athletics Club, Royal’s, Rising Star, Police, Silver Bullets and host Beacon Ministries – West Demerara Athletics Club, the competitors battled for several trophies and medals on offer.
The day’s event begun with an opening address given by the founder of Beacon Ministries Archbishop Dr. Philbert London who encouraged the athletes to participate with the winning attitude, he told the fully charged athletes that it is possible to have eight winners in one event and that they should take and practice this winning attitude in their everyday life and be winners in life.
After the completion of the events, the under fourteen champions were Jamal Holland of Beacon Ministries Athletics club and Ianna Graham of Police, the under sixteen champion was Malaika Cordis of Police, the under twenty champion Patrick King also of Police, Running Brave’s Cleveland Thomas emerged champion in the open event.
The champion trophies were presented to the athletes by Pastor Anthony Alphonso, Pastor of Beacon Ministries – West Demerara.
Pastor Alphonso announced that Beacon Ministries – West Demerara Athletics Club will be hosting two much larger events which will include clubs from Berbice, Linden and Essequibo from next year (2009) with the venues being on the West Coast and West Bank of Demerara.
