East Bank Essequibo defeated Leguan by 66 runs in Leguan as play in the Essequibo Busta 50 overs Cricket Festival commenced in Zone B with two matches.
In a match which was reduced to 28 overs because of overnight and early morning showers, East Bank batted first and made 166 for 8 off their allotted overs. Mark Braithwaite and Ryan Hercules scored 48 each, while Trevor Whyte picked up 3 for 41 and S. Jattan 2 – 21 for Leguan, who in reply were bundled out for 106 in 19.2 overs. Kevin Gordon top scored with 39 and Shazaad Razack contributed 19. Deonauth Baksh picked up 2 for 22 for the winners.
Over in Wakenaam, the host restricted Bartica to 131 in 24.5 overs in a match which was also reduced to 35 overs because of rain.
Mahase Richards was the leading run getter with 41, while Kenzo Baksh supported with 38. Off spinner Nazeer Mohamed captured 5 for 14 and left arm spinner Imran Khan took 3 for 15.
Wakenaam were 20 for 1 off 4 overs where the rain came and had the final say. Skipper Wayne Osborne was unbeaten on 4 and Navishaul Pooran on 9.
