DEAR EDITOR,
I refer to the article published in the Kaieteur News of 5th August, 2008 that a motion was put to the PPP congress seeking a third term for President Jagdeo.
I remember that some time ago it was stated in the press that the President and Corbin were having talks about this, and the PPP said this was not so. How come the motion suddenly surfaced?
Is it that the PPP does not want Ralph Ramkarran, Donald Ramotar or Moses Nagamootoo to be the presidential candidate?
It would mean that, by 2016, Robert Persaud or the ever-rising Frank Anthony would have been properly groomed.
Imagine, Jagdeo does not have a third term but still scores the largest votes. Are they not fooling themselves? I would like to know who was the returning officer, or who checked the votes.
In order for the PPP to have Jagdeo for a third term, we would have to get an amendment to the Constitution, which would mean a two-thirds majority vote in Parliament.
I could see that the party has its own manifesto in already identifying a candidate for the 2011 president in the person of Ramotar. I know that this will not be easy, as Moses Nagamootoo is back. This time around, I hope that the Central Committee does not find another excuse and expel him.
What has the party got against Ralph Ramkarran? This is a man of integrity, and the PPP is afraid of him because he will stamp out all the corruption that is taking place right now.
I know that a lot of the opposition members will support Ralph Ramkarran; and come 2011, if his name is put as the presidential candidate, it will see the PPP scoring a massive victory at the election.
It will probably be the biggest margin of victory. Come on, hierarchy of the PPP, support Ralph Ramkarran as the presidential candidate for the 2011 election.
