The Guyana table Tennis Association will be hosting an International Table Tennis Federation level one (1) coaching and women’s development programme schedule to commence at 10:30am and will run from August 9 – 13 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The facilitator will be Ms. Alejandra Gabaglio an Argentina national and ITTF Coach Instructor.
The course is a precursor to the ITTF level 2 and ultimately level 3 which is the highest level of coaching certification and is part of an International Table Tennis Federation Latin American Table Tennis Union grant.
The course has an international character and will see participants from Trinidad and Tobago Cuba and Guyana.
The international participants will be Yolanda Rodriguez Cuba and Kmaraita Mc Cleod from Trinidad & Tobago.
According to a release from the Table Tennis Association, “These initiatives are in keeping with the association’s development goals of building capacity for the sustainability of its initiatives, since we believe that the creation of a nucleus of coaches can ultimately lead to a greater nucleus of players which will improve the competitiveness of the sport, club, and school structure and assist our aims of decentralizing the sport.”
The programme is multifaceted in that it caters for the certification of level one coaches dealing with able differently able athletes, initiating Women’s activities/projects in sport organising community schools programmes among other topics.
Participants are expected to complete a certain amount of participatory hours in addition to doing a presentation on a particular subject area covered in order to receive certification; therefore attendance at sessions will be mandatory.
The release informed, “The Association has selected persons from the Administrative regions in addition to women form our women’s auxiliary and women involved in Table Tennis and club members. The involvement of women at this programme is also key since internationally there is a need.”
It was also noted that the programme would enhance the table tennis for schools programme which will be launched in another 3 weeks.
The certification will allow participants to be accredited, have the competency to conduct fundamental training, understanding the dynamics of the sport, increase the nucleus for coaches and decentralize the sport.
Minister of Sports Dr Frank Anthony and Director of sport Neil Kumar, Steve Ninvalle -Parliamentary Secretary, Keith Booker Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports, will be part of the proceedings at the opening ceremony.
