The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) has named a four (4) member team to attend this weekend’s Central American and Caribbean Senior Championships which will open today and run through to July 06 in Cali, Colombia.
According to a release from the AAG, Guyana’s quest for medals would be spearheaded by Olympian Aliann Pompey in the Women’s 400m event.
She would be supported by Jeremy Bascom and Lee Prowell, both in the 100m and 200m, while Deon Bascom would compete in the 800m.
All three males are using this competition with the aim of qualifying for the Olympics.
Meanwhile, middle distance athlete Oslyn Collins who has been training with the Trinidad and Tobago National Junior Team over the past two months was offered a place as an unqualified entry to the IAAF World Junior Championships which would be held in Poland, July 8 – 12.
Collins’ participation was made possible after the late withdrawal, through injury, of USA based Analisa Austin who had qualified for the 100m event.
Guyana was one of the many countries which did not receive a quota of places for the World Juniors and therefore, participation had to be by qualification.
