(Kaieteur News) – Thirty-two primary school teams will converge at the Ministry of Education Sports Complex today, each carrying the same ambition—to make a serious run at the coveted Courts Optical Pee Wee Under-11 Football title.

Now entering its 13th edition, the tournament has established itself as a major fixture on school’s sporting calendar and an important platform for youth football development within the primary school system.

For some schools, the tournament presents another opportunity to test their young talent against the best in the country, while for others, the ultimate prize remains an elusive dream.

13th Annual Courts Pee Wee U11 Football commences today at MoE ground.

Leonora Primary ended that wait last year, creating history by capturing its first-ever title. The champions return this year with the added pressure of defending their crown when competition gets underway following the customary March Past exercise.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., with the first matches set for 11:00 a.m. as the MoE ground is transformed into a multi-pitch football arena.

St John the Baptist Primary and Queenstown Primary will contest the much-anticipated opening match, while Agatash Primary and Redeemer Primary will also begin their campaigns during the opening hour. Batavia Primary will meanwhile face Ann’s Grove Primary in the third encounter.

At noon, Smith Memorial Primary will meet Genesis Academy, while Potaro Primary will launch its campaign against Lichfield Primary while Region One powerhouse Waramuri Primary face off with Clonbrook Primary on pitch #3.

Marian Academy will open their 2026 Pee Wee campaign against St Stephens Primary.

The afternoon programme continues with Santa Rosa Primary against St Theresa Primary, Georgetown International Academy ‘1’ facing Stella Maris Primary and Tucville Primary taking on Kabakaburi Primary at 1:00 p.m.

From 2:00 p.m., Goed Fortuin Primary will battle Pakuri Primary, followed by F.E. Pollard Primary against GIA ‘2’, meanwhile defending champions Leonora Primary begin their title defence against Soesdyke Primary.

The day’s remaining fixtures will see St Gabriel’s Primary oppose Belladrum Primary, West Primary tackle St Aloysius Primary, Colaaco Primary facing St Pius Primary and Marian Academy against St Stephens Primary.

Santa Rosa Primary will also battle Ann’s Grove, while Waramuri Primary and Genesis Academy are scheduled to meet in the closing fixtures.

The tournament has again secured strong corporate and institutional backing, with Courts Optical reaffirming its position as title sponsor.

Support also comes from Sterling Products Limited through its Igloo Ice Cream brand, MVP Sports, SkyTec Enterprise Inc. and the National Sports Commission. The tournament is coordinated by the Petra Organisation and approved by the Ministry of Education.
