(Kaieteur News) – A 49-year-old Brazilian gold miner was on Wednesday charged with the murder of 53-year-old Antonio Pereira Figueredo, who was fatally stabbed at a mining camp at Rock Creek Backdam, Puruni River, Region Seven.
According to information provided by the police, the accused Doroteia Castilho Maia of Manaus, Brazil appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to her.
She was not required to enter a plea to the charge and was remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned to 31st August, 2026, for continuation.
It was reported that the incident occurred on Saturday, 18th July at around 23:00hrs.
According to the police report, the deceased and the suspect shared a relationship. On the day of the incident they were involved in an argument at their mining camp. “It is alleged that during the incident, the man received a stab wound to his abdomen,” the police reported.
Upon receiving the report, police ranks visited the scene, where the body of the deceased was found lying on the ground next to one of the camps with what appeared to be a stab wound to the abdomen.
The police also revealed that a kitchen knife suspected to have been used in the incident was recovered.
The suspect was arrested and taken to Bartica Police Station where she was placed in custody.
