2026 CWI Rising Stars U-19 50-Over Championships… Guyana, T&T to tangle in opening round
Kaieteur Sports – Regional youth cricket spotlight will light up from this Friday, July 10, 2026, when the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars Under-19 Men’s 50-Over Championship officially bowls off in Antigua.
The Caribbean’s top Youth players and future West Indies senior team prospects will be on show over the coming days, as the region’s top 6 territories prepare for battle.
A strong Guyana team, led by captain Parmeshwar Ram and vice-captain Romario Ramdeholl, will look to make the most of an extremely dedicated couple of weeks in camp preparing for the championships.
The Guyanese U19 lads will play arch rivals Trinidad and Tobago in the opening round which bowls off on July 11.
The Guyanese team has undergone intense preseason training during camp as they aim to establish early dominance in the 50-over format. With big-name stars in Shamar Apple, Adrian Hetmyer, Justin Dowlin, Khush Seegobin, Jonathan Mentore, Darwin Joseph, and Micah Amsterdam forming the engine room, the local lads should fancy their run this season.
Guyana have prepared to kickstart their campaign on July 11 against old rivals Trinidad & Tobago, followed by July 13’s skirmish versus the Jamaicans, followed by the Bajans on July 15.
Ram and his men will then turn their attention to the Leeward Islands on July 18, with the Windward Islands match on July 20 wrapping up the preliminary round of the tournament.
Meanwhile, the host territory, the Leeward Islands, will also look to show their class led by dynamic all-rounder Matthew Miller and the classy Tanez Francis, who will act as his deputy.
The Windwards enter the opening round well-prepared, boasting top talents such as batting all-rounder Theo Edward and leg-break bowler Cody Fontenelle among other budding stars.
Meanwhile, the trio of Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, and Barbados is led by top youth prospects who will be keen on taking this year’s trophy back to their respective homes.
