(Kaieteur News) – Two men on a motorcycle are being sought by police after a string of brazen purse-snatchings in the Campbellville, Georgetown area left at least one victim injured and residents on edge.
According to residents, the duo has been terrorising pedestrians and cyclists in the area for some time. Several victims have since made reports to police, and investigators have pulled CCTV footage and screenshots showing two young men on a motorcycle believed to be behind the attacks.
Video of two separate robberies was posted to Facebook and quickly went viral, drawing widespread condemnation from social media users.
The first incident occurred around 06:00hrs on Monday along Sheriff Street. CCTV footage shows the motorcycle pulling up between two women walking close to the sidewalk. As the bike manoeuvred between them, the pillion rider snatched a purse from one of the women, yanking her to the ground with enough force to leave her with facial injuries.
In a separate video, the same two men are seen targeting two people riding what appeared to be an electric cycle in Bel Air. The bandits forced the pair off the road and stopped a short distance away. The pillion rider then jumped off the motorcycle, ran toward the victims, assaulted one of them, and snatched a backpack before fleeing the scene with his accomplice.
Police say investigations into both incidents are ongoing, and officers are appealing to anyone with information or additional footage to come forward.
