(Kaieteur News) – Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Susan Rodrigues, on Friday evening officially declared Origins: Guyana Fashion Festival 2026 open under the theme, “A Diamond Legacy: Fashioning 60 Years.”
Joining the Minister for the opening ceremony were First Lady, Mrs. Arya Ali, Second Lady Mrs. Mignon Bowen-Phillips, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the private sector and members of the creative industry.
Also present and delivering remarks was ExxonMobil Guyana’s Public and Government Affairs Manager, Nakisha Burns, who reaffirmed the company’s commitment as a Strategic Partner of Origins. Burns said the festival reflects “identity, creativity and the growing sense of possibility shaping Guyana today,” adding that ExxonMobil Guyana is proud to support an initiative that is creating opportunities for young people, empowering creatives and opening pathways for young entrepreneurs through the development of an alternative economy.
The opening night also saw the unveiling of the official Origins: Guyana Fashion Festival 2026 Magazine, which was presented to both the First Lady and Second Lady, highlighting the designers, creatives and vision behind this year’s festival.
In her address, Minister Rodrigues described the event as a celebration of Guyana’s creativity, culture and growing fashion industry. She noted that Origins reflects the Government’s continued investment in the country’s Orange Economy and its commitment to creating opportunities for designers and other creative professionals.
The Minister also highlighted the extensive training delivered ahead of the festival, which equipped participants with skills in areas including branding, entrepreneurship, digital marketing and export readiness, while noting that each participating designer received financial support to develop their collections.
Beyond the runway, patrons can also experience the Taste of Guyana food village and the Fashion Marketplace, where local designers, artisans and entrepreneurs are showcasing and selling a wide range of Guyanese products, creating additional opportunities for business and public engagement.
Origins: Guyana Fashion Festival 2026 continues until Sunday at the Railway Courtyard with fashion showcases, live entertainment, the Taste of Guyana food village and the Fashion Marketplace.
