Kaieteur Sports – As the August school vacation gets underway, the spotlight will shift from the classroom to the cricket field when the 2026 One Guyana End of Term Schools Tapeball Cricket Competition bowls off this weekend, promising two days of exciting youth cricket at the National Cultural Centre, Tarmac.
Set for July 4 and July 11, the event which is turning out to be an annual affair, will bring together secondary schools from across Guyana in an eight-a-side Tapeball format, with the first ball scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on both playing days.
Organisers have extended an open invitation to all secondary schools, with several institutions already expected to feature, including Covent Garden Secondary, Yarrowkabra Secondary, St. Rose’s High School and Diamond Secondary, among others, battling for championship honours and a share of the tournament’s prizes.
Backed by the One Guyana initiative, this year’s competition is expected to showcase the country’s emerging cricket talent while promoting youth development, sportsmanship and healthy competition during the school break.
The tournament also continues the long-standing commitment of organiser James “Uprising” Lewis, whose schools Tapeball programme has provided a competitive platform for young players over the years, helping to nurture the next generation of cricketers through consistent grassroots competition.
With trophies sponsored by Deal Supplies, participating teams will have more than bragging rights on the line as they compete for top honours in what is anticipated to be another fiercely contested edition.
