93-year-old woman dies in Castello Housing Scheme fire

(Kaieteur News) – A fire of unknown origin at Lot 36 Castello Housing Scheme, West La Penitence, Georgetown, claimed the life of 93-year-old Rosa Singh on Friday afternoon.

According to the Guyana Fire Service, upon arrival, firefighters found a two-storey wooden building fully engulfed in flames. Ranks from the Fire Service headquarters immediately commenced firefighting operations to extinguish the blaze.

Kaieteur News understands that it was during the emergency response, it was reported that one occupant was unaccounted for.

After successfully containing the fire, firefighters conducted a thorough search of the premises and discovered the charred remains of the missing pensioner.

“The Guyana Fire Service extends its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time,” the agency expressed.

Investigations into the cause and circumstances surrounding the fire are currently underway.
