GDF, Slingerz stay perfect in GFF Elite League
…Western Tigers, Fruta Conquerors pick up first win

(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League is beginning to take shape, and while the season is still young, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and defending champions Slingerz FC are already making it clear that surrendering points will not be part of their plans.
Both teams remained unbeaten after another weekend of action at the GFF National Training Centre, Providence, with the former champions GDF producing the weekend’s biggest statement, a ruthless 6–0 dismantling of Den Amstel, while Slingerz continued their title defence with a commanding 3–0 victory over Santos.
Michael Oie heads it home for Western Tigers against Camptown FC.
GDF, who entered the weekend sitting atop the standings, showed once again why they are among the favourites to challenge for the crown.
Their superior goal difference keeps them ahead of Slingerz, despite both sides boasting perfect records after three matches.
Action in the GDF FC defeated Den Amstel 6 – 0 to stay unbeaten in the GFF Elite League.
There was little time for Den Amstel to settle into Saturday’s contest, as Shakem Welcome broke the deadlock just two minutes after kickoff.
Ian Dooker then doubled the advantage in the 23rd minute, giving GDF a comfortable 2–0 cushion heading into halftime.
The soldiers returned after the interval with their boots still firmly on the ground, as Abumchi Opara joined the goal party in the 58th minute before Jayden Harris made it 4–0 in the 70th.
Seon Tyshawn Cato added another ten minutes later, and Opara returned in the 90th minute to complete his brace and cap a devastating evening for GDF.
For Den Amstel, it was their second defeat in three matches. They opened their campaign with a 2–1 victory over Fruta Conquerors before suffering a 2–1 loss to Monedderlust.
Slingerz, meanwhile, were equally clinical against Santos, with last season’s leading scorer Neron Barrow continuing his hot streak by opening the scoring in the 26th minute.
Kelsey Benjamin doubled the champions’ advantage in the 37th minute, sending Slingerz into the interval with a 2–0 lead.

Santos spent much of the contest pinned back as Coach Jamaal Shabazz’s men controlled proceedings and dictated the tempo. The pressure eventually told again in the 83rd minute when Sierra Leone forward Yusifu Kargbo found the back of the net for his second goal of the league season.
The 3–0 result gave Slingerz their third consecutive victory and another three points, keeping them breathing down GDF’s neck at the top of the table.
Saturday’s action also brought smiles to the faces of Fruta Conquerors and Western Tigers, with both clubs securing their first wins of the campaign.
Western Tigers, after opening their season with a narrow 1–0 defeat to GDF, bounced back in emphatic fashion, roaring past league newcomers Camptown FC 4–1.
Camptown, however, enjoyed the dream start when Marlon Bethel scored inside the opening minute to give the newcomers their first-ever Elite League goal following their promotion from the Georgetown Football Association.
That celebration did not last long.
Jamal Fraser restored parity for Western Tigers in the 13th minute before Hakeem Legall completed the turnaround in the 38th, giving the West Ruimveldt side a 2–1 halftime lead.
The Tigers then finished the job in the second half, with Michael Oie striking in the 72nd minute before Rondel Peters put the result beyond doubt seven minutes from full time.
Fruta Conquerors also finally broke into the win column, edging Ann’s Grove United 1–0, courtesy of a 48th-minute strike from Jermain Harry.
After back-to-back defeats to open their campaign, the result was a welcome three points for Conquerors and a much-needed boost as the league table begins to take shape.
