(Kaieteur News) – With 32 teams set to battle for honours in the 13th annual Courts Pee Wee Under-11 Football Tournament, the Petra Organisation received a timely boost from longstanding corporate partner Sterling Products Limited on Tuesday, ahead of Saturday’s opening at the Ministry of Education ground.
The sponsorship, handed over by Sterling Products Marketing Director Dellon Lynch, represents more than just another corporate contribution to the popular grassroots tournament. It also fulfils a commitment made by the company roughly a year ago to take a more inclusive approach to supporting Petra’s youth development programmes.

The tournament, sponsored by Courts Optical, has grown significantly over its last 12 editions, bringing together some 400 young players this year, while extending its reach to seven administrative regions.
That growth has also strengthened the Petra Organisation’s role in grassroots football, with the programme providing a platform for young players to develop their skills and, in several instances, progress towards higher levels of the sport.
The Under-11 competition, in particular, offers an opportunity to see some of Guyana’s emerging football talent at its earliest stage, while also combining sporting development with the broader objectives of youth development.
Recognising the importance of the initiative, Sterling Products has once again thrown its support behind the tournament, with Lynch commending Petra for its sustained efforts to expand the reach of grassroots football.
“The impact has already shown over the recent editions,” Lynch said, while congratulating the Petra Organisation for its transformation of grassroots football and its efforts to ensure that Pee Wee Under-11 football reaches children across the country.

Petra Organisation Secretary Jackie Boodie expressed appreciation to both the Ministry of Education and Sterling Products Limited Chief Executive Officer Ramsey Ali for the company’s continued partnership.
According to Boodie, Petra is delighted to have Sterling Products as an official sponsor of the Courts Pee Wee Under-11 Football Tournament.
“The company’s continued support has contributed majorly in bringing together 400 students across one tournament which has extended its reach to now seven administrative regions through meaningful commitment towards sport(s) development,” Boodie stated.
Lynch also pointed to the wider benefits of extracurricular activities, saying he had personally observed the progress made by students who participate in Petra’s tournaments and similar programmes.

Petra General Secretary Jackie Boodie speaking at yesterday’s sponsorship presentation meeting between Petra Organisation and Sterling Products Limited.
“I’ve noticed over the years that the students who would take part of these and similar tournament have been able to excelling and improving their skill. It’s also easy to say that this force of events has transitioned into the classroom performance because for me, extracurricular most certainly improves thinking, your focus and like facets that may improve one’s cognitive development. So, Sterling Products has always proud to be a part of these initiatives.”
The latest sponsorship also carries significance because of a commitment made by Sterling Products at a previous sponsorship engagement approximately a year ago.
Lynch had indicated then that the company intended to adopt a more inclusive approach to its support of Petra’s programmes, and Tuesday’s sponsorship provided tangible evidence of that pledge.
With the latest partnership secured, attention now shifts to the field, where 32 teams will begin their quest for the coveted 2026 Pee Wee title from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
For Petra, the tournament remains more than a competition. It continues to serve as one of the country’s key grassroots football platforms, where young players are given an opportunity to develop, compete and, potentially, take their first steps towards becoming the stars of tomorrow.
